Spring is in the Air

I was able to participate in a photography class this past Saturday here in town.  I don't plan to be a professional any time in the future, however I would like to know my way around my camera and take better photo's of my son!  I was a little leery about the cost and if I would feel it was worth it.  But I was so so very happy with the entire choice! I learned a ton!!!!  So very worth the price and time!  I'm anxious to take better pictures of Jaxen and have those for life!  I figure if I got a good camera on black Friday for a great price I might as well know how to use it!
As many know my husband is a Youth Pastor here in Texas.  God is doing amazing things in our youth group!  This Sunday we will have baptism and I am so excited to see the students that have put their trust in God to take the next step!

Mercy and Compassion

Lately I haven't blogged, I guess I'm still unconvinced I have a blog worthy life!  I go through spurts...bear with me I guess!
Last week we had the opportunity to take 9 students between 8th-10th grade on an in state missions trip.  We drove 2 1/2 hours from home and served with Mission Arlington.  Since attending I am a huge Mission Arlington fan!  It all started with a missionary couple that was doing full time mission work in South Korea, they were back visiting and someone asked them why they are doing missions across the world, but there are so many people here that need help.  Well that was over 25 years ago and wow has it boomed!  They have over 300 churches that are taking place in apartment complexes, they have enough food in their possession to feed all of Arlington for over a month, they have a sports program for kids that want to play but can't afford it in a school league, there is medical and dental facilities, clothing, furniture, you name it and Mission Arlington does it!  Their basis is that missions isn't something you "go" and do!  They take the church to the people!  So many people think they have to have their life somewhat put together before they can walk into a local church.  However these apartment churches people are more likely to attend b/c it's in their complex, with their friends, not in a "churchy" building.
Our group was able to connect with a Mission Arlington local church and help them with their grounds and buildings each morning and run a Bible club at an apartment complex in the afternoon!  Our students were prepped and trained to the best of their ability, however nothing could prepare their hearts for how the Lord would move!  We all went expecting to be a blessing to hurting people, never did we imagine receiving the blessings that we did!  The work that the students did at the church in the mornings was an overhaul!  They cleared out rooms and closets that needed to be cleared since the 70's!  Their hard work now shows many empty rooms that the church can use to host more small groups and minister to so many more people!  The Bible club they ran was completely them!  My husband nor I did any lead positions and boy was that hard for us!  We sat back and let them run it and they soared with flying colors!  Day 2 of Bible club we pulled up in the van to the complex and one of our students said to the group, "oh no, look they're wearing the same clothes as yesterday!"  The van sat silently as we all had a wake up call that we have it so much better then we'll ever know!  There were some kids that wore the same outfit all 4 days we were there!  Some of their shoes were so torn up it is a wonder they could keep them on their feet!  We saw 12 kids accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and choose to live for Him!  It's amazing what playing 4-square, painting nails, kicking a soccer ball, or some kool-aid will do to open up conversations about the Lord!
I came home challenged to reach my small city with love and compassion!  James 2:15-17 says "If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,  and one of you says to them "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works is dead." I'm praying the Lord allows us to open a food pantry for the needy in our city.  I'm praying the Lord will remind me of the hurting people when I complain I have "nothing" to eat!  I'm praying our students wont fizz out and that they'll continue on their journey of compassion and mercy.  I'm praying God gives me opportunities to feed the hungry even when I'm not looking for them!  I pray that I show mercy and compassion to souls...b/c that's  what they are...souls!

Recap

Well we made it through Christmas!! We are so blessed to have family that spoils us and loves on us more then we deserve! We were able to drive and see both sides of our family for Christmas! God gave us an amazing Pastor that knows and emphasizes the importance of being with family so we were able to be gone for 9 days over Christmas. Now that Jaxen is a little over 3 gift giving is way fun! We've taught him to say thank you after each gift before moving on to the next and rushing through them. I so desire to teach appreciation and respect!
Today we celebrate my hubby's birthday!!! I decided to have his cake last night with the teens instead of a massive cake being here for us to devoure ourselves! He requested a cherry dr pepper chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream icing! It might have been my best tasting cake yet!!!

Family time

I can't believe Christmas is a few days away! It's already the end of 2012 which is a bit insane! I haven't had a chance to blog lately, thankfully I've been busy fulfilling orders this time of year! I have crosses coming out my ears...not really but you get the crafters picture!
We are headed home for Christmas tomorrow so we got to have our little family Christmas this morning! The one morning Jaxen could getaway waking up early we had to wake him up at 8:30! Finally he woke up and we read the Christmas story then opened our gifts. I'm so thankful we have him! Christmas is way fun with kiddos!!! I'll attach a few pictures of my recent orders. (Yes the teal/brown cross is off centered on purpose) Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

Crafty Crosses and Hairy Beards

Today is December 6...barely, but still December 6!  This is our first winter in Texas and I must say so far it isn't barely fall yet!  We've been enjoying our 70-80 degree weather since, well, since the 90-100 degree weather.  I will say it is odd plugging the Christmas tree in when the a/c is still on in the house!  I do hope I get to wear a coat at some point!  I'm sure we will eventually!  We'll be going to Oklahoma and Missouri for Christmas so hopefully we'll see snow then!  I would love for Jaxen to play in it!
Lately I've been making custom cross orders.  My new thing is painting and assembling these crosses.  They're so fun to make because I get to put each buyers personality into their cross!  I originally made mine for the house not assuming to sell them, but one thing led to another and now here we are 12-15 custom orders later and loving it!  I will say bigger crafts take bigger time but also make bigger money, so give and take! I'll post a few pictures of the most recent ones.

This was my handsome husbands beard growing abilities for the month of November!  Isn't he charming!

It's beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas

Yesterday was glorious! My hubby took me to Hobby Lobby and we spent almost 2 hours wondering the store!! We're hosting a Christmas party Tuesday night so I wanted to get a few things done to the house before then! So last night I made my first Christmas wreath! Full price at Hobby Lobby the wreaths were averaging $99!!!! I made mine for $17!
What about you? Have you crafted lately?

The Lords Table

This past Sunday night we got to experience an awesome experience together as a church body! There were tables and chairs set up in the sanctuary and there we observed the Lords table similar to how they did during the Passover times. Pastor had a plate of types of food that would have been present during their typical meal. It included a shank of lamb to represent the lamb that was slain to offer as a sacrifice, some herbs, apples and cinnamon, horseradish to resemble to bitterness that Christ went through, and a roasted egg. He taught us why each of these items were present and about the reason for unleavened bread. We had real unleavened bread that he started to break then passed around the table. He taught us quite a few things about their customs and traditions.
It was such an unexpected blessing to break bread with our church family! Tears were shed, laughs were shared, and memories were made.
I don't know how as a typical communion service we've demeaned it down to stale crackers and a swallow of grape juice! I hope we never go back to the wafers!
